My landscape paintings are inspired by many camping and field trips into the outback and country towns. Recreating on canvas or paper the vibrancy of the Australian landscape and the sense of space and silence provides many challenges. Increasingly inspired by colour, light and mood I simplify what I see into shapes and tones, exploring the juxtaposition of one colour against another to create paintings that reflect both the ruggedness and the intense colour of the land around us. I often paint sunsets on vast skies in saturated colours and outback storms with huge dramatic skies.
