I am drawn to colour - bold and vibrant. Nature perfectly combines these ideas - colour and tones that are perfectly placed to harmonise and pop.
My landscapes are strongly influenced by the impressionist artist's. I have become increasingly inspired by colour, light and mood and often paint big, dramatic skies and vibrantly coloured outback scenes. By simplifying what I see into shapes and tones and working with bold colours and vigorous mark making I am able to create a more dynamic painting.

My seascapes portray both the fun and frolic of the beaches and the darker moods of the deeper oceans. Equally; families enjoying time together in the summer and walking their dogs or the play of light as the sun reflects off the waves or ocean foam when it reaches the shore are constant inspirations.
Painting a still life is a calm and reflective genre, allowing me to control the content , composition and lighting of my subject whilst in the confines of my studio. The choice of objects to paint is limitless. I really enjoy experimenting with different compositions and the juxtaposition of different colour combinations to make the painting sparkle.
I spend a lot of time observing animals and watching how they interact with one another. Each creature presents it's own challenge and joy to portray. My birds are often painted on large canvases with big brushes to convey the rustling of feathers and the many colours hidden in the folds. Our native creatures are a particular favourite- to show the humour of the emu or the softness of the kangaroo's ears. I love the spontaneity of dogs playing at the beach, chasing the gulls and dashing in the waves. For an animal portrait it's all about the eyes - an insight into their soul. Please contact me if you would like to commission me to paint a special animal for you. See more on my Instagram
I asked for a portrait of our dog Stix to be a wedding present for my husband. I really didn't know what to expect but I love it! It is perfect! He unwrapped it at the wedding and everyone was amazed at how accurately you captured his personality.Thank you Janette.

We have always admired Janette’s paintings but didn’t expect such a perfect painting of our Keeva. She has captured her spirit so perfectly – those huge ears and alert, intense eyes are exactly how our sage girl looks. Thanks, Janette, She’s wonderful.

We wanted something special for our dad for Christmas and thought of a photo of his much loved dog who had recently died. But my sister said “I think we can do better” so we contacted Janette for a pet portrait. Janette asked us about Wally’s personality and favourite pass times so she could create a more meaningful portrait. This painting has so much depth and has really captured his gentle, loving soul. Dad cried and absolutely loves it.
Thanks so much Janette for this wonderful portrait of my partner’s dog Roger- it’s perfect. I was so excited that I couldn’t even wait for the actual day but had to give it to him straight away. He loves it - the most perfect gift.
